Troy

June 3 was a sad, sad day.  For this was my last day travelling with Janetta, Cam & Aidan. So we decided to go out with a bang and take  a day trip to Troy.  Well, more specifically the Troia Archaeological Site, where they are certain the city of Troy was located.

The first excavations at the site were undertaken by the famous archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in 1870. At the site, they’ve discovered 11 different Troys, all built one on top of the other.  There are diagrams throughout, pointing out which ruin is from which version, but it’s all hard to remember.

This sign depicts which parts were built when, but I’m still feeling clueless even with the help!

Troy (77)

Regardless of what was built when, it was fantastic to be there, and hear the stories, and see the remains.

We made the day last as long as possible, but eventually we had to return to Istanbul and prepare for our separation in the morning.
