Today I bused from Sydney to Canberra. I thought it was hot in Sydney, but it’s just sweltering in Canberra. I definitely made a bad call when I decided to walk everywhere today – tomorrow I will use the city bus!
I arrived in the early afternoon, and walked down to the Australian War Memorial. It’s a very large museum, going through the Australian contribution in all the wars. It was actually very interesting and highly recommended, and not just because it was fully air conditioned.
From there I walked down to the water. I’ll cross the bridge tomorrow, when I go to check out parliament, but I thought I’d walk through the park on this side of the bridge and get some nice views.
That might not sound like a full afternoon, but it equaled more than 4 hours of walking in 40 degree weather, so I’m currently hanging out in the common room watching the Australian Open. I’m heading to the tournament on Friday, so when the others put tennis on I thought I’d use the opportunity to see who I’m going to cheer for.
I’ll get out more tomorrow, as there seems to be lots to check out near parliament.
